We all know how Nairobi can get sometimes with silly traffic especially during peak hours. With the rise in the gated commuities, a lot is changing as well. Gated communities are generally ideal for families as they provide safe environment where you can raise your kids. The security, safety, trust and sense of community can be ideal for families, particularly those with very young kids.
They usually have high perimeter walls and are often equipped with top notch security so chances of kids straying out and bumping into strangers or getting exposed to danger is pretty low. The kids can play within a confined play area in the community where they can be easily monitored by the adults in the gated community.
However, Manyani East Road residents are in trouble for privitasing a public road. They have blocked Waiyaki Way drivers from accessing the road and Kenyans were not happy.
Bearing in mind that the main highway along Waiyaki way is under construction, so riders have to find alternative routes to go about their duties smoothly.
Below were a few reactions.
So apparently residents living on Manyani East Road want to privatise a public road. pic.twitter.com/bVOz7WP6Qx

I went through the same drama last Friday. The guard was adamant hafungui. He finally budged after several of us engaged him.

So why do we have barriers on both ends of the road yet it’s a public road?

What Kenyans should know is the new Nairobi Masterplan once ratified will change all that. That whole Manyani East Road is zoned for commercial use meaning Manyani East Residents Association who erected that barrier and are against any form of user change will die a slow death.

At least on Mageta Road they don’t bust your balls when you use that road

Should Kenyans be allowed to privitasize a public road?
Why should private residences be inconvenienced by increased traffic through their neighbourhood because of the mess at waiyaki way a major highway ? I agree and support them closing that road to non residents !
