Barcelona fans have poured out fury after their club failed to release forward Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira to Russia’s Zenit St. Petersburg.

Malcom’s future was thrown into doubts after Barca’s quest for the services of Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Junior and Antoine Griezmann, who is already at Nou Camp with new teammates.

Surprisingly, the Russian club emerged as the favourite to sign him amidst demand by Arsenal, Inter Milan and AC Milan. According to reports, Zenit St. Petersburg presented the 40 million euros Barcelona had demanded for the Brazilian but the Spanish champions have rejected the offer, calling for an extra 5 million euros.

But this has not gone well with a section of Barca fans, who have slammed the club for frustrating Malcom and the club that wants to sign him.

On 24 July 2018, Barcelona FC paid 41 million Euros ($45.6 million) to sign up the Brazilian forward. It appears the Spanish club’s management has no interest in trading Malcom for a lesser sum. Malcom’s contract with Barcelona FC is in force until the summer of 2023.
