Barcelona central midfielder Carles Alena narrates how his club played behind his back and gave the new signing Frenkie de Jong his jersey number, a thing that has angered Barcelona fans.
Alena, who made his La Liga debut on 2 April 2017, has been wearing the jersey number 21 until the time when De Jong joined the Blaugrana when the Spanish teenage was given a new shirt number, 19.
During his interview with a media station, Aleni has stated his conversation with the Dutch midfielder and how the Spanish champions gave De Jong his most-desired number behind his (Alena’s) back.
Alena: “De Jong told me that he wanted number 21. He was sorry that the board did not notify me that they had promised him my number. It didn’t feel good that the club didn’t tell me, but these are things that sometimes happen.”

Here are some of the reactions from Barca fans;
Knew it from the beginning after leaked images of Frenkie’s jersey already had #21. They have zero respect for La Masia and academy kids, yet they were marketing our 2nd kit as a ‘tribute’ to La Masia. Menys que un club.

The 21-year-old joined Barcelona’s youth system, La Masia, in 2005 at the age of 7, after a successful trial.
