So Henry Rotich was born and raised in Kimwarer. It is ironical that the scandal that is about to bring him down is from his own backyard. Rotich was born in 1969 in Kimwarer area Keiyo South, Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

Rotich went to Fluorspar Primary School in Keiyo South District, Elgeyo-Marakwet then joined Saint Joseph’s High School for his secondary school studies before joining the University of Nairobi in 1989 for a Bachelors Degree in Economics and graduated with a First Class Honors.

But how did one of the most educated sons of Marakwet be at the centre of a scam that denied his own people a livelihood? That is the question on everyone’s lips.

Kenyans used the hashtag #RotichErorr to show their displeasure at how the CS had messed up his community. This happened even as Rotich and his co-accused were arraigned in court to answer to corruption charges.

Kenyans are also not happy with a section of Rift Valley Politicians who have defended the CS. On Monday, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said that all the charges are false.

“I have looked at the charge sheets and I can tell you the entire thing is a charade,” Murkomen told journalists.

However, a few who came in Rotich’s defense, claim that Haji’s fight against corruption is one-sided, politically affiliated and only targeting the one community, that is, as the majority of those implicated belong to the community.
