Former Tottenham star Clive Allen has pleaded with Gareth Bale to come back to his former club amid a stalemate in his future at Real Madrid.

The Welshman’s glowing six-year stint at Bernabeu appears to come to an end this summer following his sour relationship with the coach Zinedine Zidane.

Bale has won 13 major trophies for Los Blancos, including four Champions League titles. But he has no future at the club with Zidane confirming that the club is working on the forward’s exit.

The former Tottenham man has been heavily linked with a move to the Chinese Super League, where he could earn over £1million-a-week in tax-free wages, but a stunning return to Tottenham has also been mooted.

And Allen – who was involved in the deal to bring Bale to White Hart Lane from Southampton in 2007 – has sent a message to the forward, to resist the money on offer in the Far East and come home to Spurs.

However, the former Spurs forward and coach slammed Real Madrid for the harsh treatment of the Welshman.

“I think it has all been handled pretty horrifically. So much has been made public about the fall out with Zidane. I think Real Madrid have handled in very poorly. I don’t think he should be going to China.

“I think there are so many possible suitors in European football and even Premier League football – I’d love to see him come back to the Premier League.

“I sat down with him and his family when he came to Spurs many years ago, and I said Spurs was the platform for him to go on and do anything he wanted, to fulfil his dreams. He bought into that and he came to Spurs.

“I’d say the exact same thing today. This is not the same club he joined those years aback, Tottenham Hotspur are up among the top teams in European football. Come back to Tottenham, Gareth.

“That’s my message to him, absolutely.”
