For all their failings in the transfer market, Arsenal Football Club has started preparations for the new season like a team that is on a mission. The Gunners have so far won all their pre-season fixtures against the Colorado Rapids, Bayern Munich, and Fiorentina.

Unai Emery’s side missed out on a top 4 position last season by a single point and made the final of the Europa League where they lost 4-1 to Chelsea in Baku.

Below, we look at 3 reasons why Arsenal will have a better season in 2019/2020 than in 2018/2019.

Next season will be the second season in charge for manager Unai Emery. As mentioned above, the Spaniard missed on a spot for a Champions League place by a single point and made it to the Europa League final.

Players will have adapted to his methods and he will be now familiar with the English game. Furthermore, his ability to communicate in the English language will also be better, this was a major stumbling block last season. Season 2 should show us what the former PSG manager is all about.

Torreira and Guendouzi

One of the main positives from Arsenal last season was the performances of these two midfielders. Torreira proved to be the handy defensive midfielder that Arsenal had lacked for ages while Matteo Guendouzi showed he has what it takes to be a world-class performer for the club.

The game against Manchester City at the Etihad was the perfect example of how these two can work together and be the driving force in Arsenal’s engine room. They complimented each other brilliantly and despite Arsenal losing the match, a potential midfield pairing for the future was revealed that night.

Bellerin and Rob Holding

Arsenal conceded 51 Premier League goals last season which was worse than Newcastle United who finished 6 places behind them. Much of this was due to long term injuries to two of their best defenders in Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding.

The two are however on the road to recovery with Rob Holding already in full training. More Holding means less of Shkodran Mustafi which is the best-case scenario for arsenal’s backline.

Hector Bellerin is one of the best right-backs in the league when fit and ended the season with 5 premier League assists despite not being fit for a very large chunk of it. These two will be like new signings who will significantly improve Unai Emery’s team.
