Meet CORD leader Raila Odinga bodyguard

The trademark handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘and his brother’ Raila Odinga has greatly changed the fortunes of the opposition leader.

According to inside reports, Raila has been accorded a VVIP treatment by the State agencies and among them is a 12 state-sponsored bodyguards.

But there is one bodyguard who stands out in the former Prime Minister’s 12 team member. He has been with Raila during both sunny and rainy moments.

On Friday, eagle-eyed Kenyans took to social media to celebrate the highly-trained bodyguard. One Gideon Kitheka said the bodyguard has on many instances saved his boss’s life.

“This is Raila’s most loyal Bodyguard.He has managed to keep him safe all these years.He is the one who tactfully transferred Raila from one Range Rover to another when an Assassination plot was hatched against him in January of 2008.He is Israeli trained.We celebrate you brother”, read his tweet.

Uhuru reportedly has a security team of 200 officers in the Presidential Escort Unit. The team is drawn from the General Service Unit. Deputy President William Ruto is said to be having 45 bodyguards for his protection.

However, Raila’s 12 bodyguards may not be the only security that he enjoys as he is also reportedly accorded diplomatic security and official embassy cars to drive him around since he acquired his new job as an AU top envoy. His expenses are also paid for by the missions through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In April, he attended South Africa’s icon Winnie Mandela’s burial where he represented President Uhuru and was accorded the requisite state courtesy by the South African Government and Kenyan High Commission.

During his May visit to the UK, Raila is said to have been chauffeured in official embassy vehicles and was accorded state protocol a privilege he last enjoyed when he was the Prime Minister.

In his diplomatic tour to South Sudan, the NASA leader was treated to an official reception at the airport by ambassador Cleland Leshore.

According to state protocol, only visiting Presidents and some top government officials are received by ambassadors in foreign states.
