Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has given his hefty pledge for the national team after finishing third in the ongoing African Cup of Nation in Cairo.
Buhari gave his promise at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while receiving the Super Eagles, who jetted back home after beating Tunisia 1-0 on Wednesday in the bronze race.
The president, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, commended the team for been good ambassadors of the country.
“Let me warmly welcome our great team from Cairo, Egypt. You had great team spirit and ruggedness in the competition and that is very commendable.
“Let me assure you that Mr President has taken speedy action about your allowances and very soon you will receive them, I assure you of that,’’ Mustapha said.
The Rohr-led team, which arrived in Nigeria on Friday morning, were given a rousing welcome by the government and Nigerian football supporters who defied the rain to welcome their stars home.
Responding to the president’s statement, the team’s assistant captain Ahmed Musa thanked the government for its continued support for the team and promised a better outing in future competitions.
Other Super Eagles players like Obi Mikel and Odion Ighalo have returned to their respective clubs in Europe and China respectively.
