Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has unmasked fraudsters who are conning Innocent Kenyans using his name. Sonko has revealed that some individuals are soliciting for money from innocent Kenyans using his name assuring them of certain favours.

Through his twitter page, Sonko has stated that his office does not ask for money in order to offer assistance to people or a group.

“I wish to bring to the attention of the public on the fraudsters who are using my name to solicit for money from innocent members of the public using their mobile phones purporting to be my numbers. My office does not demand for money or favours in order to assist people/groups,”Sonko stated.

The Kabaddi team was on the verge of being conned by someone calling himself Sonko demanding ksh 5550 before the county chips in to sponsor them.

But Governor Mike Sonko has already recorded a statement with the police who are pursuing the fraudsters.

“I always assist needy people and sports teams out of volition without demanding for money. Just like the previous suspects who were apprehended and charged in court, police have already been notified about the latest cases and they are already pursuing the suspects,” Sonko claimed.

Last month a group of impersonators were arrested in Umoja. Two men were placed in handcuffs as the officers combed through the mountain of evidence they found within the premises.

Countless copies of national identification cards were found in the apartment as well as cartons of documents that were confiscated by the police.
