Just a day after three Rift Valley MPs Kasait Kamket (Tiaty), Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria) and Silas Tiren (Moiben) held a peace meeting at Kolowa area in the volatile Kerio Valley region, suspected Pokot bandits on Tuesday made away with over 30 livestock in Chemoe area in Bartabwa ward, Baringo North.

According to Bartabwa ward MCA Reuben Chepsongol, tension remains high in the area after the bandits wrecked havoc. Luckily there was no one injured during the attack.

Chepsongol blamed security officers from Tiaty for not cooperating with those from Baringo North in the recovery of the livestock. So far nine cows have been recovered through the efforts of ASTU officers stationed at Chemoe.

The MCA called upon Interior CS Fred Matiangi to restore sanity in the area. The incident happened just four days after Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen together with  Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi led another group of leaders, pitching camps for three consecutive days at Kiptulel Ward, Sigor Constituency West Pokot in a bid to end banditry in the region.

According to the two leaders who were later joined by Sigor MP Hon Peter Lochakapong, said they decided to take the mandate upon themselves after the government showed no intentions of finding an everlasting solution to the situation and instead disarming National Police Reservists in the area.

The leaders said that they were planning to reopen the market on 31st July with the aim to foster unity and spur economic growth in the area. According to them, members of Pokot and Marakwet communities were ready to work together and maintain peace both as neighbours and brothers. “We choose PEACE.,” said Sudi
