Deputy President William Ruto has asked his Kalenjin community to unite and prepare to take over the leadership of the country in the coming elections.

Speaking in mother tongue during a fundraiser at Eldama Ravine on Sunday, Ruto did not mince his words saying that he is preparing for the 2022 elections just like Christians prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ.

“No one should ever threaten or mislead you. Instead, we should unite so we can take over the leadership of this country.”

“You plan for today and the future … And that is why when we go for these public rallies, they [MPs] say we are in Jubilee and organised for tomorrow. Is there a problem with that?” Ruto asked amid cheers.

He further asked: “Do you know the date of going to heaven? But you have faith that we are going to heaven? So with this 2022 which we know the date, the week and the month, is there a problem when we plan?”

The Deputy President bold call to his people of Kalenjin, is in some way a wake-up call to the region which is clearly divided.

A section of Rift Valley leaders has openly opposed his Presidential bid. The Leaders, especially from Kanu party, are pushing to end Ruto’s dominance by endorsing Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
