Money ignites the world, but the appetite with which MPs and Senators demand for more each and every day is alarming.

First ,the MPs placed huge demands of receiving a Five Star Treatment in Parliament. Led by National assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, MPs were ready to run dry mwananchi’s pockets.

But before the dust settles on their outrageous Sh250,000 house allowance, the lawmakers are at it again.

This time around, the MPs and senators, totaling 416, have devised a new scheme to fleece taxpayers by claiming a “night” allowance whenever they are in Nairobi to attend parliamentary sessions.

Dubbed the “Domestic Subsistence Facilitation”, the new scheme entitles each MP to between Sh18,200 and Sh24,000 per night.

But who approves the MPs salaries?

West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio has come out to defend the legislators stating that they don’t determine their own salaries.

Speaking to a Local TV station, Poghisio has stated that the Parliamentary Service Commission is the one that engages with the Salary Renumeration commission to determine what lands in their pocket.

“We (MPs) don’t determine our own salaries, Pogishio.

He has also denied allegations that The Lawmakers are always antagonizing the SRC claiming that The Parliamentary Commission is the one that engages with SRC.

” Commissions negotiate with one another, that’s how commissions operate,”he insisted.

The Salaries Renumeration Commission (SRC) has always blamed the Parliamentary Services Commission for approving MPs and Senators salaries without their consultation.

This war is far from over. The lawmakers are now planning on how to abolish SRC and replace it with another body.
