Mental health has been a discussion that has had the public open-minded whenever the discussion is brought about. One vocal Kenyan, well known to most netizens took to Facebook and raised a matter that had most of us in deep shock. Ndungu Nyoro through a parent to a high schooler at Nairobi school raised an alarm over alleged bullying in the school.
So apparently, a parent of a form two student at Nairobi School was asked to go to school sometime last week. Her son was unwell and required medical intervention. Unknown to her, it was sickness occasioned by school prefects over time who seemingly are untouchables. The depressed mother shared her frustrations in a parents WhatsApp group as attached.
But the bit that crushed me was where she wrote:
“…..Am looking at our son now and I can’t believe Nairobi school has wasted him so much. We have to supervise him even as he eats and brushes his teeth.
Went to pick him and found he had lost most of his uniform looking dirty and unkempt. He is even back to peeing in bed something he had never done. He has gone mute and can’t even near the prefects who beat him. I feel so tired and I don’t have the energy to fight right now. Let us first address the health issues. Please pray for him”
Below were some screenshots from Nairobi school’s WhatsApp group;
It must have been hard for the parent of the boy to pen it down;
Do you think it was okay for the parent to raise an alarm over the issue?
