CECAFA: Sunzu’s mistake gifts APRC a second win

An own-goal from Geen Eagles player, Sunzu in the 60th minute is all APRC of the host country needed to claim their second win of the ongoing CECAFA tournament after beating Proline in their first match on Saturday.

The Green Eagles who also claimed their first win on Saturday against Heegan in a 2-0 win were the better side throughout the match but their opponents took the best of their chances that they created to claim their win.

The Green Eagles of Zambia dominated the better part of their second match of the tournament that is ongoing at Rwanda in the first half with a more than 60% possession.

Armée Patriotique Rwandaise FC (APR FC) of the host country, Rwanda were fiery attacking like the hosts and their pressure on the visitors saw them get a right-hand-side corner on the 8th minute but it did not bear much fruit although it was a shot on target, it went into the hands of the goalkeeper.

Another left-side corner from the APR side comes on-goal but it is saved again and the ‘host’ side seemed to be stronger than their Zambian side, as Sugira’s shot in the 17th minutes gets saved by the goalkeeper, Mwaange.

The APR side, although despite losing the ball easily to the Green Eagles with a lot of ease they were creating a lot of chances their efforts were not getting rewarded courtesy of the solid defence and some disorganisation from the striking force from the side.

The Green Eagles took control of the last minutes of the first half which saw them create at least three chances but none of them bore any fruits but rather left them open for attacks.

But they found themselves on the wrong sides being attacked from every side by their rivals with one going off-target, another one finding the forward on the offside while the goalkeeper had to overwork to have two shots from Manishimwe and Byiringiro as they went for a half-time break.

The APR side got a breakthrough in the second third, 0th minute after much knocking on the goal-site of the Green Eagles and their efforts were rewarded as the mix-up by the rival’s defence resulted to an own goal from Sunzu to send them leading.

APR put more pressure on their visiting side for the better part of the second half but could not get another goal, in a match characterised with cards and fouls. Overall, there were seven fouls, two offsides and a total of 14 corners a symbol that APRC which exerting much pressure on Green Eagles.
