Mt. Kenya MPs allied to the Deputy President Willam Ruto has been accused of branding members from the region who are against them ‘Mungiki’, a criminal gang consisting of mainly of youths from Kenya’s largest tribe, the Kikuyu.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu claims that the team has opted to adopt the plot so that they can scare and intimidate those against them especially in early politicking.

“They claim that the men, women and children who are standing up to their premature politics, are Mungiki. They hope to draw from the loathing we have for this illegal group to scare and intimidate people from telling them off when they speak politics at the wrong place”.

Ngunjiri who is a member of a rival group Kieleweke , argues that TangaTanga leaders from Mt Kenya have masterminded the plan whereby they target the young and energetic men pushing for their arrest or even have them killed.

“Meanwhile those TangaTanga leaders from Mt Kenya who are pushing the narrative that poor frustrated young Kikuyu men should be arrested or killed purely on the basis of their financial status, gender & ethnicity; and because they refuse to support your political of premature 2022 campaigns and disrespecting the President; we can only call you ‘Tukunia”, read part of Nginjiri’s Facebook post.

In the lengthy post, the Vocal MP went on to reveal that he had already raised the matter with the Chairman in the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security Hon Paul Koinange in efforts bring those responsible into accountability.

“However i have flagged this development and raised it with Hon Paul Koinange, my Chairman in the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security. It is something our committee needs to keep an eye on and be ready to act upon. This is because if unchallenged the narrative that anyone who tells off a politician – or a leader playing politics – is a member of an illegal sect is extremely dangerous. It gives rogue police & security officers carte-blanch to harass and even kill poor Kikuyu youth on suspicion of something they cannot prove they are not”, he added.
