The self proclaimed ‘People’s President Raila Odinga’ has been described over hundred times using the ‘Lord of Poverty Tag.’

The AU Representative Raila who still reigns as the Barometer of Kenyan politics has always been associated with cheap politics which are not aimed at improving the livelihood of the people instead make them even more poorer.

But is he really the Lord of Poverty?

The Deputy President William Ruto has given rise to this tag again describing the Enigma Raila as the Lord of Poverty. Addressing the Residents of Nyamira, Ruto argued that Raila was opposed to all Jubilee development projects from the start. He mentioned the projects such as Eurobond, The Standard Gauge Railway which Raila was so much against capitalizing on corruption to justify his opposition.

But this tag runs deep, in 2017 Nasa coalition was described as a unit conspiring against the poor led by Hon Raila Odinga. The coalition went on the streets to beg after accusing The Jubilee government of rigging the elections. This marked Raila’s downfall.

Famous political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi in 2017 also described Raila as the Lord of Poverty. In a situation where both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila acted right no one admitting to be wrong.

Prof Mutahi Ngunyi argued that  Raila used his Kitendawili narrative to appeal to the poor with nothing to add to their plate.

Jubilee Secretary General once blamed Raila for the poverty that is spreading in the Nyanza region thus describing him as the Lord of Poverty.  Tuju at some point described his swearing in as “kalongolongo” (game played by kids).

Assistant Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs after his bitter fallout with ODM also described Raila as a two faced individual who does not think of development but rather hails on poverty. This is after he joined Jubilee party.

They are not the only ones who have called Raila Odinga the lord of poverty. Most other political leaders have described Raila using that name.
