Algeria cemented their position as Group C winners at the Africa Cup Of Nations with a relatively easy 3-o win over Tanzania. The Desert Foxes made 11 changes to the team that beat Senegal and Kenya but wrapped up the match against Taifa stars as early as in the first half.

The gulf in class between the two sides was evident in the early exchanges with Taifa stars restricted to their own half. Algeria should have made their dominance count in the 10th minute but Andy Delort was unlucky to see his long-range effort come off the bar.

Leicester City’s Islam Slimani opened the rout in the 35th minute before Adam Ounas added a second 4 minutes later. The North Africans put the game to bed in the last minute of the match through Adam Ounas who claimed his brace with a cool finish from a Slimani pass.

The second half saw Algeria drop the pace though they were still dominant and should have added a few more goals but for good goalkeeping from Metacha Mnata. Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez replaced Ounas in the second half but did not make an impact, while substitute Bounedjah wasted a great chance to make it 4-0 when he fired wide late on.

Blackpool striker Adi Yussuf also came on for Tanzania in the second half but headed over the bar with minutes to spare.

The result sees Tanzania finish last in the group with zero points. They lost 2-0 to Senegal in the first match then 3-2 to Kenya despite leading twice. Algeria finished as Group C as winners with 9 points and no goals conceded.

Senegal finished second with 6 points after dismantling Kenya’s Harambee Stars 3-0 in the other Group C match.
