Nairobi Area Police station remained a no go zone for the better part of Wednesday afternoon after an engagement between police and the rowdy youths who had gone to the station to demand Jaguar’s release ensued.

Trouble started when the youths together with a section of MPs led by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria stormed the police station with chants and songs demanding the release of Jaguar. The irate crowd sang songs at the station demanding the deportation of the foreigners while demanding the officers to set their MP free.

With time the police could not take in anymore in process hurling tear canisters to disperse the already charged crowd which was at the helm of storming into the station.

Even as this unfolds, Kenyans from different walks of lives have expressed their reactions over Jaguar’s arrest. The controversial legislator was arrested on Wednesday outside Parliament Buildings by plain-clothed police officers and loaded into a waiting car before being taken to Nairobi area Police for questioning.

South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro’s plea with the detectives to have his colleague not to be handcuffed felt on deaf years.

“Hakuna haja ya kumfunga pingu, mweshimiwa ataenda tu,” said Osoro before a detective told him off and bundled the Starehe MP into a vehicle.

On Monday, Mr. Njaguar had threatened to deport all the Chinese and other foreign traders in the country after giving the government an ultimatum of 24 hours to act. His remarks had caused an uproar in the country with many calling for his arrest over the incitement.

While some rebuked the arrest saying the legislator was within his mandate to order for the deportation of illegal foreigners in the country, others commended the government for the swift action saying the unfortunate remarks by the MP were likely to cause some security threats to legal foreigners in the country just like the xenophobia attacks which were recently witnessed in South Africa.

Here are some of the reactions from both Facebook and Tweeter sites:

Rops Patrick Kim Prison is a home for all you do something useful in there with your mouth

Motongoro Ziggy Am proud as Kenyan,,,, Very proud we have to love our neighbors as we love ourselves

Lavena Adams Mdoshe CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES :
I regret ever voting kwanza twice.. Who will ever rescue this beautiful country I call home??
We are doomed my fellow countrymen!!!!

Caroline Kaigua My only concern is the East African traders, in Kenya we also have Kenyans doing same in their countries and he ought to be very mindful of everyone involved.

Meshack Mbithi But honestly that was absolutely not necessary, Mheshimiwa. Fanning embers of hatred and sowing seeds of discourse against our neighbours is pure filth. Some of our relatives are earning their livelihoods in Tanzania. What do you make of them? What will come of them? Before you let out something from your mouth, make sure it has a tail,to hold in case it goes astray.

Samuel Migwi Jaguar only spoke on behalf of the common mwananchi what many would not dare to speak in fear of being arrested. He will be freed am sure.

Jaguar’s arrest came amid reports that Tanzania had summoned Kenyan High Commissioner to Dar es Salaam Dan Kazungu to explain ‘xenophobic’ remarks made by Kenyan MP Charles Njagua threatening to have their traders kicked out of city markets.

Tanzania’s remarks were however met by stern reactions from some Kenyans. Many said Tanzania should just ignore Jaguar’s remarks as it had little impact on the citizens.

His arrest, however, turned dramatic when a section of MPs led by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria together with a number of supporters followed Jaguar to the police station shouting and demanding his release.
