Madagascar make history as Ighalo rescues Nigeria on day 2 at AFCON 2019

Madagascar pulled off the surprise of the Tournament at the ongoing Africa Cup Of Nations in Egypt. Appearing for the first time in their history, the debutants claimed a valuable point in an entertaining 2-2 Guinea.

The Islanders went behind in the 34th minute but rallied to lead early in the second half. First, Anicet Abel equalized 4 minutes after the restart before Carolus Andriamahitsinoro gave them the lead in the 55th minute.

Francis Komano leveled matters from the penalty spot for Guinea to ensure that both teams share the spoils in what was the most entertaining match of the Tournament so far.

In the first group B Match, Idris Ighalocame off the bench to get the goal that beat Burundi as Nigeria made a winning start. Burundi had shown to be stubborn before Ighalo struck with only 13 minutes of play left. The result means that Nigeria leads the group with 3 points with Guinea and Madagascar tied on a point each.

Earlier in the day, Uganda took the initiative in group A with an impressive 2-0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo. Uganda scored their goals through set pieces with both being headers.

Patrick Kadu headed the East Africans in front in the 14th minute before Emmanuel Okwi doubled the lead 4 minutes after half time. Uganda now leads Group A ahead of Egypt who has an inferior goal difference.
