Popular K24 Swahili TV Presenter Isabella Kituri who has been flaunting her baby bump on our screens scared viewers with a labor scare live on air.

The mother of one has been pregnant for a while now, so when she showed signs of discomfort on air, her co-host Franklin Wambugu jumped straight into action asking for a commercial break to make sure the beauty was okay.

Luckily it was confirmed that she didn’t go into labor, it was false labor, a condition known as Braxton Hicks. The condition refers to the contractions that occur before real labour.

The term was coined by Dr. Hicks in 1872  to help doctors distinguish between false and real labour, to eliminate the confusion.

Braxton Hicks can start as early as the second trimester but are usually common in the third trimester. They are also called ‘practice contractions’ because they prepare women for the real event.

Unlike true labor, Braxton Hicks contractions:

  • Are usually not painful
  • Don’t happen at regular intervals
  • Don’t get closer together
  • May stop with a change in activity or position
  • Do not last longer as they go on
  • Do not feel stronger over time

For the longest time, approximately around 8 years, the TV girl had a problem with saying yes to love again after she lost her husband at the age of 25. She lost her hubby just after 1 year of marriage to colon cancer. She had just given birth to their baby three months prior.

She was in the blink of an eye taken from married to widowed and a single mother which broke her spirit. She opened up that it was her pastor who got her to finally move on and remove her wedding band.

Fans have been extremely happy for her during her second pregnancy, knowing how long she held back from any form of love.

Isabella’s labor scare isn’t the first in TV history to scare viewers into an almost heart attack. The one who pulled off the most epic prank live on air while at Citizen TV on her co-host Hussein Mohammed.

With a few days to go until her highly anticipated delivery, Janet Mbugua’s last show before commencing her maternity leave is one we shall all remember and particularly, Hussein Mohammed. Check it out below:

Earlier this year in March, popular TV presenter Brenda Czeda from KTN went into labour on air in her morning express show. While she was reviewing the week’s top stories with communications strategist Mark Bichachi and lawyer Brenda Mdivo, the show took a commercial break and that was when the labour pains hit her.

After the commercial break, she had been replaced by Steven Muendo and rushed to Nairobi hospital.
