Congratulatory messages continue streaming in for Kenyan gospel artist Mercy Masika who was named UNHCR Goodwill Ambassadeur.
Mercy Masika has been busy at work rallying for the LuQuLuQu campaign which seeks to change the narrative on Refugee people so the new appointment comes as a pat o the back for all her hard work and commitment to the cause.
Her involvement with the LuQuLuQu campaign pushed Masika to advocate for and support UNHCR’s work in protecting people forced to flee. Just last year she got to perform at the first ever TEDx event held in a refugee camp. Check out her powerful performance below:
This past December, Masika took part in UNHCR’s Christmas campaign calling on public support for refugees across Africa. Masika also represented UNHCR internationally at the National Prayer Breakfast in the Washington, D.C., which was attended by the United States President and other high-level government officials.
Her appointment comes at an opportune time to make a change in the current refugee situation in the country which hosts close to 480,000 refugees and asylum seekers.
She announced the exciting news on her Instagram page.
Congratulations messages have since flooded her timeline. Check some of them out below:
