Matiang’i 2022 Factor Intensify As Gusii Leaders Now Call For Other Communities Support

Gusii leaders now want the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 elections.

The leaders claim that Matiang’i has outshined most leaders aiming for the same position and that other communities should consider supporting him in the race.

The calls are coming at the time that the CS has not yet shown any initial political interest. Initially, it was widely thought that he will be in the race to succeed Governor John Nyagarama.

Speaking at Bomwagamo, Gusii leaders including Speaker Moffat Teya and several MCAs backed Governor John Nyagarama and Senator Okong’o Mogeni in the call arguing that he’s best suited to take over.

“We are proud of the CS. He has done a wonderful job and deserves to occupy State House. Those opposing him from Gusii should stop,” said Teya.

“Abagusii community has done well in the national stage. We should also as other communities to support the CS. He has come of age,” added Majority Leader Duke Masira.

Last week Ngarama was quoted, “We have men of integrity from this region. It’s not fair to have only certain communities leading us. Matiang’i has done exceptionally well and deserves to lead.”

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro was castigated this week for discrediting Matiang’i’s possible presidential prospects. Nyagarama asked Gusii leaders to stand with Matiang’i during the function.

The building up 2022 Matiang’i factor has seen a section of politicians supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential ambition call for his resignation from the Ministry of Interior post.

Among the is Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa who faced a fall out with the ODM Party for supporting Ruto’s 2022 ambition.
