“Barcelona are the luckiest club this summer!” This is the only statement fans are making after watching Frenkie de Jong’s superb display in the match between Netherlands and England on Thursday.
The Dutch were the masters of the match since they managed to hold their opponents to the end, scoring them 3-1.
Led by the captain and Liverpool’s defender Van Djik together with the young Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, Netherlands held England and denied them more goals after scoring their goal through a penalty by Marcus Rashford.
Also, the Dutch team made several attacks to England until they got their 3 goals in the 73rd minute by Matthijs de Ligt, 97th minute by Kyle Walker (own goal) and the 114th minute by Quincy Promes.
These goals came courtesy of the solid midfield led by Frenkie de Jong.
His mentality and awareness in the field is what attracted the attention of many fans, crediting him as the current best midfielder in the world.
Fans now came to understand why Barcelona hurriedly grabbed the signature of the sensational midfielder back in January before summer.

Barca identified the potential of De Jong after his brilliant show both in their domestic league and the Champions League. De Jong helped Ajax lift their domestic double and narrowly missed reaching the Champions League finals after falling to Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals.
Barca agreed with De Jong that he was to play for Ajax till the end of the season 2018-19 then join the Blaugrana for the season 2019-20.
The Dutchman has won the heart of every football fan and they follow every single tactic he displays during play. De Jong is keen on everything he is doing, a player who is always aware of the field and can quickly spot his teammates in the field.
