Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has taken a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto and his Tanga Tanga team, warning them to stop early campaigns because they will still not make it in the 2022 election.

Speaking during the Eid Baraza, in which he hosted thousands of Muslims faithful at his Late Mother’s home in Mombasa.

‘Rais amesema tuwache siasa kwa sasa. What is the big deal? Ngoja, kama wewe ni wa kuanguka utaanguka tu. Haraka yako ni nini? Ata ukienda mbio namna gani, tunakutime na wakati wako ukifika tutakutega uanguke chini.’ The governor said as he was cheered by a huge crowd.

Joho, who is fondly referred to as Sultan by the coastal people, maintained that he will support the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga who are advocating for the unity of the country. He wondered why anyone would oppose the unity of the country.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, who has set raised an online storm, for allegedly being used as the face of the new 200 shilling note, also graced the event in which thousands of Muslims attended. Matiang’o was appointed the head of all government projects in January this year and it is not clear if he graced the event in official capacity or as a friend of the governor.

Through pictures shared on his social media pages, Joho said they used the event to address pertinent issues facing the people.

“I thank the Almighty God for allowing us to congregate in large numbers for this year’s Eid Baraza. We hosted Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i & Najib Balala, the Chief Kadhi several Members of Parliament, and the residents of Mombasa.” Joho said, through a post on his Twitter handle.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a day used to mark the end of the Holy Month of Ramadhan on the Muslim Calendar. It is a time to thank God for enabling his people complete the holy month and also enjoy the bounties that they had refrained from during the fasting period. In recent years, the government has declared this day a national holiday.
