NTV makes drastic changes as boss resigns under unclear circumstances

Alex Kobia, the Managing Director Broadcast Division at Nation Media Group has resigned under unclear circumstances.

Sources indicated Kobia, who joined NMG less than a year ago to replace Linus Kaikai, did not indicate reasons for his exit from the media powerhouse.

A letter sent to inform the staff at NMG stated that the resignation would be in effect from 22nd June, 2019.

In changes announced by NMG CEO Stephen Gitagama, Justus Tharao (production and programming operations) and Betty Kuremwa (commercial) will report to him until a substantive replacement is identified.

Kobia holds a Masters in Science from the University of Liverpool and a Bachelor of Arts (architecture and development) from the University of Nairobi.

He formerly worked at Al Jazeera Media Group until his assumption of the new position.

His responsibilities at NMG included the overall management of the broadcast division as he was in-charge of NTV Kenya and Uganda as well the vernacular (Luganda) KFM radio station and Spark TV.

His predecessor, Kaikai, moved to Royal Media Services to replace Farida Karoney who was appointed Lands Cabinet Secretary.

In the interim, Justus Tharao (production and programming operations) and Betty Kuremwa (commercial) will report to the Group CEO until a substantive replacement is identified. Emmanuel Juma, will continue to report to the Group Editorial Director. Martin Mwaura (technical) and Nickson Kirwa (marketing) will report to Justus.

I urge all NBD staff to continue with their focus on the goals and deliverables of their respective units in order to contribute to meeting the Group’s objectives.

Management would like to express gratitude to Alex for his contribution to NTV for the last one and a half years.
