Police are searching for a suspected arsonist caught on camera lighting a lobby on fire in the Malik Heights along Ngong road before running towards the nearest staircase and out of the business complex.
Surveillance video shows the man identified as Abdirizak Yusuf Adow entering with a jerrican, pour accelerant on the floor of the building on Ngong road.
The Monday night fire at Malik Heights consumed 69 luxury vehicles estimated to be worth Ksh600m among other things.
He is said to be a former broker at the business and was captured walking into the compound carrying a jerrican believed to have contained fuel.
A ball of flames erupted in the front lobby before spreading to other areas in the complex.
Detectives are said to have visited his Nairobi homes in Eastleigh and Kileleshwa but did not find him.
“We told his people to let him know he is wanted. He has been placed at the scene of the incident and it is believed he was bitter with the business at the building where he was a broker,” said an officer aware of the probe.
The Institute of Engineers of Kenya had urged the owner of the Malik Heights building to launch a forensic investigation into the structural integrity of the building following the fire incident.
