Moha Jicho Pevu: From Ruto’s Fierce critic to loyal Disciple

Mohammed Ali and William Ruto

Nyali member of parliament Mohammed Ali was a man loved and equally adored by many in the country. During his television years, especially in KTN, he used to fearlessly dive deep into some of the biggest scandals in the country with his investigative episodes duped Jicho Pevu.

Many Kenyans regarded him as the best investigative journalist they had seen in the country. Most of his investigative journalism stories mostly depicted certain political leaders in the bad limelight.

Moha, as he is popularly known, was really passionate about the well being of the common Kenyans and was very vocal on the matters that affected them.

His intriguing investigative documentaries unearthed the dark sides of some of the biggest politicians in the country and he often got into trouble for that. Sometimes forcing him to go into hiding.

Most of those politicians who usually found themselves on the wrong side of his stories included Deputy President William Ruto. Ruto almost featured in every investigative piece that Mohamed released

Most people viewed Moha as a close friend of opposition leader Raila Odinga and at one point, many supporters who were associated with the ruling Jubilee government viewed him as a subjective investigator leaning towards Raila’s side on his stories.

In 2016, Mohammed Ali after a long stay in media declared his interest to get into politics and Kenyans were very pleased with the news. His pick of ODM party as a vying vehicle proved the doubts of many that Moha was indeed a Raila follower.

Many thought that maybe his entry into this dirty game would bring the fresh breath of air that we desperately needed as a country.

Ali went back to his hometown in Nyali and after a long campaign process, he was elected and finally got into parliament holding the dreams of many Kenyans even those who werenโ€™t from his constituency.

Moha’s relationship with ODM, however, ended before the polls afterย  ODM through Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho fronted his close relative for Nyali seat in the process rigging out Moha in the party’s nominations.

With his entrance into parliament on an Independent ticket, Moha slowly started embracing Deputy President William Ruto as a way to revenge against ODM party.

After several meetings with William Ruto in 2018, Mohamed Ali was finally convinced to dance to Ruto’s tune. Despite taking the backseat in most parts of 2018, Moha has finally come out to offer his support to William Ruto.

On Sunday, Mohamed Ali accompanied Ruto to Kiambu were he addressed the residents of Githurai throwing his weight behind Ruto in 2022.

So far the journalist turned politicianโ€™s gesture has elicited a myriad of reactions for what many interpreted as backtracking the once vocal government critic.

Many didnโ€™t take kindly his pledge to work with the Jubilee government in service delivery, noting that they are the same leaders he called out in his investigative TV series Jicho Pevu.

His initial fierce critics towards Ruto and current support has totally proved to many that politics is all about interests and there are no permanent enemies or friends.

Mohamed Ali insisted the reason he decided to work with Uhuru and Ruto was to unite his constituents in order to avoid what occurred after the 2007 general elections.

At first, many Kenyans thought Moha was just playing pretense and was only getting close to Ruto so he could learn his crooked ways and expose him. A few people felt that Mohammed Ali was completely in order and there was nothing wrong with a member of parliament welcoming the Deputy President to his constituency to launch projects.

Beside his Kilifi counterpart Aisha Jumwa, Mohamed Ali is proving one of Ruto’s key allies in the coast region ahead of 2022 general elections. Ruto has so far infiltrated into the coastal region that was once considered ODM stronghold.
