History made as Liverpool and Chelsea clash in first ever all-English UEFA super cup final

UEFA Champions League, winners, Liverpool will play fellow English side and Europa League winner, Chelsea in the first all-English Uefa Super Cup on August 14 in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Reds qualified by beating Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final, with the Blues booking their place with a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League in amid-week clash hosted at Baku Azerbaijan.

Liverpool is the last English side to win the Super Cup, back in 2005 when they won the UEFA Champions League on penalties after coming down from 3-0 to level before the end of the second half.

Four of the past five have been all-Spanish affairs with Atletico beating Real Madrid in Tallinn in 2018.

Following their weekend win in Wanda Metropolitano, Jurgen Klopp’s led men Liverpool will be in seven different competitions in the next season.

After winning the Champions League, they will be the European representatives in the Club World Cup in December, with the hosts to be decided at a Fifa meeting on Monday.

The Reds also play in the Community Shield against Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley after the latter carried all the domestic trophies although the date is yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be on 3 or 4 August.
