Governor Mutua calls for stern action on leaders in money laundering

As the debate for Kenyans to exchange to have the old 1000 note exchanged by October 2019 several leaders have come out applauding President Kenyatta’s move.

Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has congratulated the President terming it as one of the wisest moves to curb corruption. According to Mutua the introduction of the new note was a strategy and it is no longer a secret that there is a lot of stolen money in the country that is been hidden and the move will now expose the thieves.

“The thieves will now be seen because they will now have to back the money..the move will allow the money to pour into the market, we will see a lot of buying of vehicles, people spending the money and consumers will rise which is good,” says Mutua.

He further urged President Kenyatta to keep a track of where the money that will start pouring so that we all know where it is coming from. In addition, he put a disclaimer noting that no all people who keep their money in the house are thieves or have acquired it illegally, hence it will be wise enough to let those individual exchange their money without any problem since it is their hard earned cash.#

“We must acknowledge some people keep SMALL amounts of legally obtained cash instead of banking it & should be allowed to change what they have to the new bills. It is not illegal to keep small amounts of CLEAN cash. However, LEADERS & their families should explain their CASH.”

Mutua’s statement came a day after President Kenyatta and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) governor Patrick Njoroge launched the new currency during the 56th Madaraka day celebration.

According to Governor Njoroge, all Kenyans have until October 1, 2019, to exchange the old 1000 note to the new one after which the old one will cease to be legal tender.
