Kenya and the entire world are still grappling with unanswered questions in the ongoing fake gold scam probe that has apparently stalled.

One of the key persons of interest Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula was expected to be grilled by detectives at the DCI as soon as he jetted back from China, but that is yet to happen.

According to a reliable source at the DCI, the investigations have stalled since a report on the forensic voice analysis that would have linked the senator to the scam had not been concluded, and it would be premature to grill him.

The forensics bizarrely took over a week despite the fact that with the right equipment and analysts, forensic speaker identification takes less than 30 minutes.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji gave the investigative team seven days to conclude the probe, which have already expired.

Slightly over a week ago, DCI team led by George Kinoti went to Dubai to be furnished with copies of payment receipts, invoices, and or bank transaction but did not gather the evidence from the complainant.

Detectives said they were analyzing the audio in which a man believed to be Wetang’ula is also heard assuring the Dubai-based gold dealer, believed to be Ali Zandi, that the gold would be delivered from Congo to Dubai.

“We will have to sit down and discuss this issue of money because the amount of money I have seen is not the amount of money you are talking about,” he said.

A few days after the senator’s name was mentioned in the scam, he left the country for Hong Kong for a preparatory international anti-corruption session and returned last weekend.

Before he went to China, Wetang’ula admitted having been involved in the transaction but denied conning the businessman.

According to reports DCI detectives had summoned him on Wednesday but the Ford-Kenya party leader said he was not aware of such summons.

On Wednesday morning, Wetangula, as if unperturbed,  led a meeting of his party in the capital Nairobi.

“I am here because I am here,” he said as he exuded confidence when asked about the summons.

“I am here for my party meetings. I am not aware of what you are talking about, it is a non-issue to me and I don’t want to engage in it.”

“I’ll be in a committee meeting at Senate and I’ll be in the plenary in the afternoon debating issues of the country as they come on the floor,” he said.
