Allan Owiny is optimistic of keeping a clean sheet in the final game of the season as Mathare United chase a top-four finish against Gor Mahia on Wednesday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Owiny, who made his debut against the champions on January 6, has enjoyed a good run of form that has seen him keep four consecutive clean sheets in the league.

“It’s something that I expected especially towards the end of the league because we have now gelled well with the defence. I’m now on nine clean sheets and I hope to make them ten tomorrow against Gor,” said Owiny.

His ability to play with the ball has stood out since his first game at Kasarani and the Ugandan insists that he will be under no pressure at all against the record champions.

“I enjoy having the ball on my feet so I’m always comfortable whenever we are playing on a good surface. Our philosophy also encourages the keeper to participate in the build-up. I’m looking forward to it since it’s just a game like any other,” he added.

Victory over Gor Mahia will place the club in good stead of finishing inside the top four, a feat Owiny has never achieved in his five-year sojourn in Kenya.

“It’s an  important match for us since we have a realistic chance of finishing in the top four. We’ve been playing good football and we deserve to be in the top four. We’ll be going for maximum points,” underlined Owiny.
