Shock contender emerges as Barcelona’ plan to sack coach Ernesto Valverde

Ernesto Valverde is on his way out of Barcelona’s door this summer and the Spanish giants have his replacement ready.

There have been suggestions that emergency meetings have been called to discuss Valverde’s position.

This is despite the Barcelona boss leading his side to back-to-back league titles in his two seasons in charge.

His downfall has been in Europe, where his side threw away two three-goal advantages in back-to-back Champions League campaigns to Roma and Liverpool.

Now according to Catalan radio station RAC1, Valverde is under growing pressure following Saturday’s Copa del Rey final defeat by Valencia.

Despite Barcelona publicly showing their support for Valverde after the Spanish Cup defeat, they suggest the club are looking for someone who is tougher in training.

They are also looking for someone who is more daring when it comes to substitutions and want someone with a more attacking style of play.

Martinez led Belgium to a third-place finish in last summer’s World Cup and has impressed many La Liga sides.

The former Everton and Wigan boss has lost just three of his 35 games at the helm of the Belgium national side.
