Six times Groove Awards nominee Stephen Kasolo is one of the greatest musicians from Eastern Kenya.
Stephen Kasolo was born on January 26, 1994, in his home town, Kitui.
The ‘Kitole’ hitmaker came from a humble background which has been his motivation to even work harder and has produced many hits.
During a previous interview, Kasolo narrated how his parents left him at a tender age and were left with his sister and brother. Things did not go well with the trio as the only sister passed away leaving him with a brother who later developed mental illness.
Stephen Kasolo faced a very challenging childhood with no parents and almost gave up.
However, somehow God showed himself through a family who adopted him and that is where his musical journey began.
Kasolo went to Nzukuni Primary School and later proceeded to Katulani Boys High school in 2008. this is where he started leading in singing in the Christian Union (CU).
The outspoken musician later joined Multimedia University for a degree in journalism and Mass Communication.
His breakthrough song, ‘Kitole’, brought him to the limelight and this has come to be his signature phrase. His first car was branded the word ‘Kitole’ which means ‘Okay’ and is one way of always remembering where he has come from.
Kitole also acts as his first single to be nominated to the prestigious Gospel award, Groove Awards.
He boasts as the youngest Kamba musician nominated to Groove Awards multiple times and has won three times.
Kasolo has been making headlines after re-introducing Tanzanian legendary Gospel artiste Rose Muhando who had had a controversial incident.
Rose Muhando had been in poor health and controversial Pastor Kanyari had prayed for her. Kasolo maintained that he respects Rose Muhando for setting a space for young Gospel artists.
Kasolo and Rose Muhando have worked in two songs which have been hits in Kenya and Tanzania.
Stephen Kasolo has also been nominated for this year’s Groove Awards for the sixth time and his song that he featured Citizen TV’s Lilian Muli as the song of the year.
