Copa del Rey winners bus, Valencia involved in an accident

The bus carrying some Valencia players and the Copa del Rey trophy that they had won over the weekend following a triumphant final against La Liga title winners, Barcelona was involved in an early morning accident as it crawled its way back to the team’s hotel but no major injuries have been recorded after the accident.

Valencia staff and some family members were also on board the bus, which was making its way back to the team hotel following their 2-1 win to win the del Rey cup over Barcelona who was targetting a double to crown the year.

The police released the details of the morning clash where it is claimed a vehicle collided with a lorry before the team bus became involved injuring a person in the collision, although Spanish daily Marca claims that everybody on board the bus escaped unharmed.

The bus did not suffer serious damage and was able to continue to the team’s hotel in Jerez before the team returned to Valencia to celebrate their latest triumph.

Valencia marked their centenary season in style by stunning Barcelona to win their first trophy since 2008 with a 2-1 victory in the Copa del Rey final.

Barca’s Champions League hangover showed no signs of lifting after that four-goal semi-final comeback victory by Liverpool at Anfield that send them to meet their England foes and London dwellers of Tottenham Hotspurs who differently beat firely dutch side of Ajax who had seen off giants like Juventus and Real Madrid.

Lucas Moura scored a hat trick in the return match to level up and wrap up a 3-3 aggregate which saw them proceed in an away goal rule.

It meant a season which promised so much a month ago ended with just a league title, which was wrapped up on April 27.

Valencia, who finished fourth in La Liga, 26 points behind Barca, took a 2-0 first-half lead through Kevin Gameiro and Rodrig.

And even Lionel Messi could not rescue his side this time even though he scored the goal in the 73rd minute which set up a frantic finish but was not enough to secure a double for the side to wrap up the season.
