Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has challenged the opposition leader Raila Odinga to come out and share the alleged audio Raila claimed to have listened to while in Dubai.

Khalwalke through his Twitter account urged Raila to produce the audio which he listened to and helped him positively distanced Matiang’i from the allegations.

Speaking in Kitutu Chache North Constituency on Friday, Odinga narrated how he blew the cover of the ‘extortionists’ who were trying to dupe a Dubai gold investor that their detained consignment would be released.

“I am the one who exposed the callers as fraudsters. I was with the Arabs when they received the call from the fraudsters who told them that they had their gold consignment and even sent a photo.”

“They then said that they were with the Interior Cabinet Secretary. So I told the Arabs to tell them to put Mr. Matiangi on the phone. When he came on he said, this is Matiangi, I confirm we have your consignment and if you comply to our conditions, we will transfer your consignment to Wajir Airport where you can go and pick it up.”

Raila said that he warned the Arabs that the person was not the real Matiang’i they were talking of and that they had been coned.

“It is at this point, that I interjected and I told the Arabs that they are being duped and that those were notorious conmen. The ongoing investigations will soon lead to the arrest of these impostors. But I want to assure you that on this matter of the fake gold, Mr Matiangi is as clean as cotton wool,” Odinga said.

Khalwale now wants the Opposition leader to provide the audio to the public so that it can aid the investigative agents in their efforts to nab the fake gold suspects.

Khalwale’s demands were also supported by a section of Twitter users who joined the former senator in calling for the opposition leader to come out clean and produce the audio to also exonerate himself from the saga which has had his name mentioned as well.

The names of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga were dragged into the saga after an audio recording emerged where a certain Moses can be heard mentioning them in a bid to assure a Dubai gold investor believed to be Ali Zandi, a business associate of United Arab Emirates ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that their detained consignment would be released.

Last week, ODM leaders led by Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Mombasa counterpart governor Ali Hassan Joho defended Raila warning against politicians linking him to a fake gold scandal in which a Saudi national is reported to have lost Sh400 million to a syndicate in Kenya.

The leaders criticised Deputy President William Ruto and his friends for challenging Mr Odinga to come clean on the scandal, saying Dr Ruto has no moral authority to speak about corruption.

The scandal has reignited the fight between MPs allied to President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga on one hand and those coalescing around DP Ruto over the war on corruption and the Head of State’s handshake with Mr Odinga.
