Uhuru under pressure as bhang legalization debate hots up

Marijuana legalisation debate is intensifying as several Kenyans, leaders and activists continue pushing the government to have the drug legalised in Kenya.

Last year, Kibra MP Hon Ken Okoth kicked off the debate by writing to the National Assembly in a bill seeking to legalise marijuana, arguing that it could be used for medicinal purposes.

Several Kenyans among then Raila Odinga Junior supported Ken Okoth’s move and have been pushing for the same since then.

The issue has now fallen in the hands of the activists which might mount a lot of pressure to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Activist Boniface Mwangi on Friday said that he is working on a longer article this weekend and post it on Monday why Kenya should legalize marijuana.

The activist argues that the head of state smokes bhang but he has refused to legalise it.

He further refers to an incident when Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko alleged on a popular TV station during an interview that he used to smoke bhang with Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu in parliament when the two were MPs.

“Governor told us he used to smoke bhang in parliament with .We know His Excellency,President Uhuru Kenyatta smokes bhang but he has refused to legalise it.I shall write a longer article this weekend and post it on Monday why we should legalize marijuana,” tweeted Boniface Mwangi.

We however don’t know the contents of the long article he is working on over the weekend but he says the article will state the reasons why Kenya should legalize bhang. Do you think the head of state will bow to pressure and have marijuana legalized?
