The office of the DPP has cautioned Kenyans against circulating the Wetangula gold scum audial noting that it can incite Kenyans against the senator.
The statement stated that the office of the DCI should be allowed to do their investigations without comprising the situation of the Ford Kenya leader.
According to the DPP, it is alarmist to share such information and asked Kenyans in possession of such kind of information to submit it to the relevant authorities.
“Such claims and their circulation through social media and specifically leaked phone recordings in today’s age of real-time borderless publishing are alarmist and may needlessly cause disaffection. Until all facts are obtained and analyzed it is irresponsible to publish such material to the public,” part of the statement by Haji reads.
DPP Haji also in his statement confirmed that individual involved in the scam and the victims have reached out to him and are willing to cooperate with authorities to further expedite the investigations.
Haji further explained that he has ordered the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to forward investigation files within seven days after which he will take appropriate action.
In the recording, the man assumed to be ‘Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula’ invokes the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta, CS Fred Matiang’i and former Prime minister Raila Odinga during the conversation.
The Deputy President William Ruto while speaking in Endebess however, asked opposition figures to stop dragging President Uhuru’s name through the mud.
“I tell our brothers in the opposition not to import their bad habits to Jubilee; they should shun engaging in dirty deals, corruption and conning others.
These people who are political conmen turned business conmen should carry their cross alone,” Ruto said.
Section of the leaders led by former Kiambu governor William Kabogo had called on the arrest of the senator.
Kabogo urged the president to arrest the senator and make him serve as a lesson to others with similar behavior.
Ford Kenya party had claimed that Wetangula fight is political from those who had the interest to run for Ungoma gubernatorial seat.
A source familiar with the developments has stated that Wetangula has already is plotting to run for Bungoma gubernatorial seat and support Musalia for a presidential bid.
“Wetangula is running for a governor seat and declare support for Musalia, and those behind his woes are known, they want to brand him as corrupt but they won’t succeed,” he said.
