The Kenya Police Service unveiled the traffic rules to be taken seriously by motorists else find themselves guilty of an offence and will cough out some heavy cash as penalty.
They revealed it shall be lawful for any police officer in uniform to stop any vehicle, and for any police officer, licensing officer or inspector to enter any vehicle
The men in uniform have also been mandated to drive any vehicle or cause any vehicle to be driven whereby upon reasonable suspicion of any offence under this Act they can order and require the owner of any vehicle to bring the vehicle to them.
On production of driving licence on demand, any person driving a motor vehicle on a road shall carry his driving licence or provisional licence, and, on being so required by a police officer, produce it for examination.
Regarding the validity of licenses and permits, the following licences and permits shall be deemed to be driving licences in respect of the class or classes of vehicles for which they are issued,and throughout the period of their validity, except where otherwise hereinafter specified;
a) A valid driving license or permit issued in Tanzania, Uganda or Ethiopia.
b) A service driving permit issued by the Naval, Army Air-force Authority, but only for the purpose of driving Naval Army of Air-Force vehicles on duty and subject to the permit being issued in compliance with any regulations or instructions in force.
c) A convention driving permit held by a person resident out of Kenya.
d) A domestic driving permit issued in a country outside Kenya issued by a person, residency outside Kenya which shall be valid only for a period of 90 days from the date of the holder’s entry into Kenya.
e) Whereby reasons of delay in printing or otherwise the form of driving license prescribed in the second is temporarily unavailable the form prescribed in that schedule as an interim driving licence
Validity of licenses & permits
