ISSA NO NO! Foods to AVOID for breakfast

Most of us Kenyans may always be in a rush to leave the house in the morning and because of this we don’t pay attention to what we eat or just don’t have the time to make a good breakfast for ourselves.

This leads us to make some unhealthy decisions in the name of being in a hurry and having no time to properly feed ourselves.

Breakfast is known to be the important meal for a reason and it should therefore be very healthy.

1. Cereal

This is the perfect ‘quick breakfast’ for a lot of us. The packaging says it comes with all these nutrients anyway so why not?  Many cereals have a lot of sugar and lack adequate fibre and protein and lack of these will make you so hungry soon after you’ve left the house.

2. Juice

You may think that by gulping down a glass of fresh juice will help you get through your morning but the truth is, healthy as it may be, you’re not giving your body the balanced nutrients it needs. Not having enough protein will make you feel more hungry a lot earlier on in your day.

 

3. Non-fat yogurt

Especially if it’s flavoured, which may mean that it has added sugar. Also, skipping out on the fat ca ironically make you add weight. You can opt for plain fat yogurt and add some honey, raisins or fruit to make it sweeter and more filling.

4. Sausages and bacon

Yes, this gives us so much life. Who doesn’t love bacon! However, processed meats are unhealthy as they contain a lot of calories. Harvard researchers have found that every 1.8 ounces of processed meat you eat raises your heart disease risk by 42 percent. Very scary.

5. Breakfast sandwiches from the supermarket

A lot of them may be using ingredients that are filled with sodium, preservatives unhealthy fats and probably contain processed meat. Right, not good for you. It’s better and healthier to eat something that you can quickly whip up at home.

6. Just coffee

This is not a MEAL. If you prefer to have this in the mornings, always have it with something healthy on the side.
