Police had accompanied Joseph to his parents’ home in Makadara in search of items stolen from slain warder Pauline Wangari Ngoi’s house.

Police said that while at the premises, Joseph jumped from the fifth floor of their house but police moved in so fast to rescue him.

Afterwards, Joseph is said to have tried to stab himself with a dagger, an attempt that was equally unsuccessful.

At their house, Joseph’s mother fainted after he saw his son attempt to commit suicide.

“We asked him why he wanted to commit suicide and he said he feared for his life especially if he is sent to prison where he is likely to meet the slain prison warder’s workmates who might kill him and that he felt bad after his mother fainted when we escorted him to their house,” an officer told the Nation.
