We have all heard these kinds of stories for a million times ‘till now. God knows how many times on Instagram have you seen the photo of a guy showing half of the heart and girl showing thumbs up. We have witnessed as well many photos of a girl writing “I love my best friend!” underneath the most romantic picture in the world. I am among the lucky ones that managed to escape friend zone, but God knows it wasn’t easy.
So there was this girl and she was the craziest of them all. I didn’t know her unlike the usual I-know-her-since-forever stories but still, it doesn’t change anything. We’ve started college together and took some classes together as well, and then I failed some so she continued without me. I was fooling around as a lot of us do, and so did she, but she managed somehow to combine her studies as well.
We’ve been there for each other for a while, and I always knew that I could rely on her at any and every point of my life and vice versa. I’ve had some girls here and there, and then I entered serious relationship while she dated the same guy since high-school. If we had issues in relationships we’d confine to each other, if we had family issues we’d find comfort in each other and if we were struggling with money there was always a helping hand or better said “lending hand” that we could rely on, because that’s what friends do for each other, right? Right.
I’ve asked myself this so many times and I never knew the right answer. I chose to be a coward and procrastinate the inevitable. It was forever much easier to find excuses such as: “Now is not the right time… or: “Maybe if I waited a bit this would all go away.One night we were having our “Tuesday movie night” in her room and I was hiding this excitement behind the excuse that I’m behaving like that because I broke up with my girlfriend.
No other girl could look like her, or think like her, or understand me like she did. She had all of here capes off and I admit it was so easy for me to take her off guard since she could be with me the way she is, I’ve accepted her as such and found amazing beauty lying in there. After staring so much, I guess she felt the stare and looked up. That was my window, that was my elevator pitch and one shot that I couldn’t miss. I kissed her. And it was the most emotional, screaming, kicking kiss I had in my life. There were like a thousand voices in my head that were telling me why it was wrong and how I just ruined it all and they were all yelling. But the one that was whispering was the loudest.
Do you know what was it saying? It said that I made the best decision in my life. You are probably wondering what happened further. Well, we are now in our separate lives, but it was worth the risk and I did not regret.
