AU High Representative on Infrastructure and ODM Leader Raila Odinga flew to the DRC on Friday evening to hold talks with DRC President Felix Tshekedi.
The visit comes a day after Senator Moses Wetangula name-dropped the AU envoy and President Uhuru Kenyatta in the stormy gold scam which has touched on the UAE royal family.
Odinga flew to Kinshasa for the talks that centered on the building of the Kinshasa- Brazzaville bridge which is part of the Tripoli- Cape Town Trans Africa Highway.
In the leaked audio conversation, Wetang’ula dropped the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga to assure a Dubai gold investor believed to be Ali Zandi that their detained consignment would be released.
Wetang’ula assured Zandi, a business associate of United Arab Emirates ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that he had talked to Raila who in turn reached out to Uhuru to secure the release of the pricey containers.
From the conversation, it also emerges that flamboyant businessman Zaheer Jhanda claimed to have been picked as a representative of “Interior CS Fred Matiang’i”.
However, some Kenyans on twitter questioned Odinga’s timing with some questioning if he had some hidden agenda’s in connection with the fake gold scandal. Here are some of their reactions;
