‘ I want a new Challenge!’ Vincent Kompany explains why he’s leaving Man City

Manchester City and Vincent Kompany have confirmed the news on Sunday morning.

Less than twenty-four hours after winning the FA Cup, Kompany has announced he’s leaving Man City.

The Belgian centre-half has been at the Sky Blues for eleven years.

Now 33, Kompany, City’s club captain, played a crucial role in the club’s historic domestic treble-winning season.

Kompany pushed John Stones out the City team in the Premier League in the back-end of the season as he made 17 appearances in the title-winning campaign.

Kompany also played four times in the Champions League, three times in the successful League Cup campaign, and in Saturday’s FA Cup final win over Watford.

Why Vincent Kompany is leaving Man City
Kompany has decided to use Facebook as his platform to explain his Man City exit.

The defender revealed that he’s keen to draw a line under this stage of his career while on a high. He wrote:

Dear all,

Community Shield Winners!

Back 2 back League Cup Winners!

Back 2 back Champions of England!

FA Cup Winners!

We’ve just seen the close of an incredible season.

My 11th as a Blue.

And I cannot believe I’m writing this but … also my last as a Blue.

Countless of times have I imagined this day, after all, the end has felt nearby for so many years.

It still doesn’t feel real.

And City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak also heaped praise on the club captain.

“There have been many important contributors to Manchester City’s renaissance, but arguably none are more important than Vincent Kompany,” he wrote.

“He defines the essence of the club. For a decade he has been the lifeblood, the soul, and beating heart of a supremely talented squad.
