How Handshake is hurting Raila’s ODM Party

One of the Country’s giant political parties, the ODM party has absolutely gone silent. The party that has been enjoying representation allover the country is seeing some of its members decamp, with some moving to Deputy President William Ruto’s side.

In the past, it was unheard of for ODM leader Raila Odinga to face any hostile reception in his backyard.  But do you remember what happened in Muhoroni just recently? Raila being heckled while giving speech? There has been back and forth among leaders that the hecklers were paid to cause the melee, claiming that it was not targeted at the party leader, but do you think that is the case?

Well, a lot has happened both in Jubilee and ODM. Definitely, ODM has its focus shifted, and this has happened because of its collaboration with Jubilee through handshake, where it thinks certain things they cannot do or question.

Political pundits say the party is ceding grounds and embracing Uhuru’s ideologies by keeping mum even in light of serious concerns which directly contradicts its manifesto for 2013 and 2017 campaigns.

Accordinf to some of the ODM members,  some of the leaders in the party had become bigger Jubilee sycophants than the the ruling party legislators themselves.

The heckling of Raila, Turkana governor Josphat Nanok’s switch of support base to Ruto’s camp and the twin loss in Ugenya and Embakasi South constituencies and the pulling down of their candidate in Wajir West speak of a rebellion within the party support base.

But ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna sees nothing wrong with the events and believe that people are jealous of the party and that is why they wish it broken.

But do you think Sifuna’s sentiments are anything to go by considering the fact that the party is losing popularity through the handshake that hs seen it support any of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s idea?
