Kariobangi Sharks woeful form continues with loss to KCB

KCB cheque off Kariobangi Sharks with a 3-2 win

Kariobangi Sharks suffered back to back losses that prolonged their woeful run of one win in 14 games after KCB held on for a 3-2 win in a Kenyan Premier League staged at the MISC Kasarani on Saturday 18th May.

Kariobangi Sharks came into the game in wretched form having won only one of their last 13 games, a run that has seen them slip to 11 on the log. KCB were in high spirits after doing the double over AFC Leopards in a midweek clash. Sharks started the game on the front foot as on the sixth minute Harrison Mwendwa threaded in a neat through ball to Eric Kapaito from the left corridor but his shot was blocked for a corner.

KCB were awarded a penalty in the eighth minute after a double foot challenge on Kennedy Owino by Boniface Omondi which left the forward requiring treatment. On-loan AFC Leopards striker Ezekiel Odera stepped up to take the penalty and held his nerve to send John Oyemba the wrong way and hand the Bankers an early lead.

Sharks struggled to take control of the game on the dump surface taking its toll on the players who found it hard to string a set of passes together with KCB heading into the half time break leading 1-0.

William Muluya had some stern words for his charges which was evident as Sharks returned to the second half a much-rejuvenated side. Sharks were handed a penalty in the 52nd minute when Gabriel Mugabo brought down Kapaito with a tackle from behind. Duke Abuya who was on target when Sharks beat Mathare restored parity with a nonchalant spot-kick.

KCB were not level for long as they regained their lead through substitute Chrispinus Onyango who only took seven minutes to announce himself as he tapped in a pass across the face of goal from Kennedy Owino as he wheeled away in celebration to join the few Bankers fans who had come to cheer on their side.

Onyango did not take the foot off the pedal as he bagged his brace four minutes later when Baraka Badi teed up a calculated pass to him as he dribbled past Oyemba and not even the presence of Abuya and Geoffrey Shiveka in goal could stop his strike from going in.

Shaphan Oyugi set up a nervy finish to the game with a tame effort that tricked in despite the best efforts of Joseph Okoth to keep the ball off the line. KCB were able to hold on for the win to move to eighth on the log while Sharks remain 11th on the log with 38 points.

Sharks next face a daunting task when they face Ulinzi Stars while KCB travel to face Nzoia Sugar.
