Why its Hard to Sell Mudavadi as Presidential candidate

As the 2022 political race takes shape, Political bigwigs are fast crisscrossing the country in a bid to sell their political ideologies and solidify their bases. One political giant who has made his ambitions known is ANC’s party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

The soft-spoken politician has of late been so vocal on corruption issues in the country but his bargaining power into a possible coalition ahead of 2022 elections is so minimal with his troops taking sides in the national political landscape and rapidly forming into a two horse race.

Musalia Mudavadi is no doubt next in line after Raila Odinga exits the political stage

Despite Mudavadi’s presence, political analysts have projected a fierce presidential duel pitting William Ruto and whoever would be fronted by team Kieleweke which boasts of political heavyweights in the country led by Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

Mudavadi seems to just be making such declarations because he considers himself a senior politician and is finding it hard to go for a lower seat. First of all, Mudavadi does not have any solid support base that would support him in the race, making one wonder who he expects to vote for him and propel him to the top seat.

He has done very less to fully assume leadership of his Western Kenya backyard which is currently heavily divided, a section rallying behind Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.

When Uhuru tasked Nasa leaders with the popularisation of the Huduma Namba registration, observers noted that it was a classic show of sending an olive branch to top opposition leaders but in consideration of his 2022 political interest.

Whereas Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka quickly read the mood of the head of state that came with the gesture that has tellingly redefined his style of operation, Mudavadi has not shown any notable spark of playing by the president’s side ahead of 2022 elections.

Flamboyant businessman and politician Don Bosco Gichana told Mudavadi that political daggers have been drawn on national politics and the longer it takes him to make up his mind, the more he is forgotten politically.

“It seems on one side of the battle, Francis Atwoli has comfortably taken his position and Mudavadi as the de facto face of Luhya politics should choose on which side to take very fast and place himself at the center stage for relevancy,” noted Gichana.

And in Kenya where most people vote in a tribal manner, one would wonder who would give his vote to a man who is openly losing and lacks support even at his homeland.

In order to make his 2022 dream a reality, Mudavadi must get out of his comfort zone, solidify his Western region then embark on making friends and selling his name seriously across the country. He should leave his soft side and become aggressive in order to remain relevant and revive his hopes.
