Former Chelsea defender expresses his desire to play in the Premier League again

Nigeria and former Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel is expected to return to the Premier League before the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off in Egypt on 21st June.

The defender left Chelsea for China but was released back to Championship side Middlesbrough on a free transfer deal Januarybutafterthe failure of the club to get promoted to the Premier League he looks unlikely to extend his six-month deal with the Championship club after receiving several offers from the top-flight.

Norwich City and Sheffield United who have already qualified for promotion are two of the sides that are looking for the signature of the Nigerian the veteran which he’s fine to work with

A source told a section of media: “There are some options right now, and a few more we expect to see over the coming days.

“Once all the options are on the table, he will make a decision.”They added: “He will most likely make the decision before the finals, although that will depend on what is on the table.”

The Nigerian spent ten years at Chelsea from 2007 and cemented a place in the starting eleven and in the hearts of the Stamford Bridge faithful during their decade of dominance.

He helped the club to win two Prem titles, three FA Cups and a League Cup as well as the Europa League in that period.

But his highlight came in 2012 as he started in the Champions League Final victory against Bayern Munich and helped the Blues to claim the prize for the first time in their history.
