Police in Kenya have announced a major security uplift as the Holy Month of Ramadhan approaches the 17th Day of fasting when Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the first Muslims triumphed over the Qureishi of Makkah.

In 2014, the National Police Service noted, some 150 lives were lost during the month of Ramadhan alone.

Police have also said they have heightened security in mosques so that faithfuls involved in the taraweeh prayers in the deep of the night can worship in peace.

New Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai also noted that churches would be guarded during the Ramadhan, citing that terrorists are looking for an opportunity to revenge on New Zealand’s ChristChurch attack where some 50 Muslims were massacred.

In Sri Lanka, some 300 people including 39 foreigners were killed after suicide bombers stormed churches and high-end hotels.

The attack which has since brought in its wake a flurry of retaliatory attacks seems to drag the South East Asian country back to a civil war.

The country has enjoyed relative peace since the 1983 war on suspected terrorists ended in 2009.

Members of the public are required to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or call the toll-free numbers.
