Harry Kane’s injury and the Champions League finals leave Gareth Southgate sweating as he selects his team

England national football team manager, Gareth Southgate is at crossroads and in a sweaty state as he mulls on whether to pick Harry Kane in his England squad for the Nations League finals.

The England boss Southgate names his squad for the June tournament this week and has made fitness checks on the Tottenham star with both the man himself and his club which has convinced him to put Kane in.

The England international striker is facing a race against time to be fit for Spurs’ Champions League Final against Liverpool on June 1 and England’s Nations League semi-final with Holland in the Portuguese city of Guimaraes five days later.

Kane has been out since taking a whack on his left ankle in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City last month but is confident of being fit for club and country and is desperate to be involved as his manager confirmed early on.

The 26-year-old England and Tottenham captain who was seen moving well during the celebrations after the stunning semi-final comeback win over Ajax is expected to do ball work by the end of the week and hopes to start sprinting.

Southgate is expected to name an enlarged squad, having also kept tabs on Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks who has undergone groin surgery but is also confident of being ready.

It leaves Southgate sweating on the fitness of Englishmen involved in that showpiece fixture in Madrid and the Arsenal vs Chelsea meeting in the Europa League Final three days earlier and hoping they do not get injuries that would keep them out for the Nations League.

Spurs and Liverpool players who are fit are due to report for national duty on June 3, just three days before the Holland match. Depending on the result against the Dutch, England will then face Portugal or Switzerland in either the final or a third-place play-off on a Sunday.
