I remember when i was 19 yrs old, there was a fad of wearing  silver chains, rings and bangles. A guy would approach you in the street and his neck would be seriously covered in thick layers of chains shining and blinging. Then the gold hit the streets and people went mad with the idea of rocking gold chains and rings.

But whatever we were buying those days, was it genuine jewelry from the said precious metals?

Then there was this video of Nairobi governor Mike Sonko purchasing chains worth Sh.4.3 Million. The flamboyant governor was seen buying the expensive Versace bling while in Dubai.

He purchased a chain which was pure gold with a diamond encrusted pendant. He is seen paying for the bling in cash.

Sonko said that he was taking the video to get the approval of his wife before making the purchase. He said that he was a fan of gold and designs by Versace.

He recently made headline for his famous gold shoe.

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko today caused a stir online after appearing on a golden shoe during the good deeds meeting with Nairobi residents at the City Hall.

The shoe is estimated to be around Ksh16 million. He also threw himself a Versace themed birthday party.

Sonko bought his jewelery from a Versace store, and there is pretty much a high chance that the gold was genuine. But riddle me this dear reader, what if someone approached you with a gold chain or a gold ring or any gold bling’, how would you determine that the gold is genuine or not?
